MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday assailed the supposed proliferation of illegal drugs in Cebu, claiming the area is poor because of the drug menace.

“I must say that dito sa Cebu, a lot of… one of the severe problems ng Cebu is drugs and it has contaminated a lot of policemen here,” Duterte said in a speech in Lapu-Lapu City during the inauguration of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 2.

“As I’ve said, one day I will take an action against all of you. Mahirap ang Cebu because of drugs.”

Duterte did not clarify, however, whether he was referring to the entire Cebu province or Cebu City in his speech.

The President previously tagged former Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama as one of the so-called “narco-politicians”. Rama has vehemently denied the allegations.

Duterte has tagged certain portions of Visayas as drug-infested, including Leyte and Iloilo City where the slain Albuera mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. and former mayor Jed Mabilog hailed.

In his speech, Duterte again threatened to have Mabilog, who has since fled the country, killed.

“Sumibat na ang g***. It’s Mabilog and I warned him repeatedly,” Duterte said.

“Pagkamatay ni [Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo] Parojinog, sabi niya na galit pa ba ako sa kanya. Sabi ko, ‘hindi lang galit. P***** i** mo, papatayin kita l**** ka.’”
