Mount Elizabeth beat National University and Tan Tock Seng triumphed over Singapore General in the two exciting opening encounters of the Singapore Inter-Hospital Basketball League on Sunday.
The tournament, which will run over 10 Sundays, is organised by the Association of Filipino Radiographers in Singapore (AFRIS) and held at Queensway Secondary School in Margaret Drive.
AFRIS president Nhel Padre said in his opening address that the tournament – now in its second year and open to all staff — aims at fostering closer camaraderie between staff of the six hospitals Singapore. The other two hospitals taking part are Mount Alvernia and Khoo Teck Puat.
The tournament was hailed by guest of honour Adjunct Prof Tan Bien Soo of Singapore General who said sports not only promotes health but also helps foster friendship.
Other guests included Third Secretary and Vice Consul Laarni Zorayda Gandarosa of the Philippine Embassy; Monica Cheang, Senior Assistant Director, National Integration Council (NIC) Secretariat; and OFW Pinoy Star Publisher Luz Campos Mesenas and Founding Editor Clement Mesenas.
