Hearty applause, with occasional ear-splitting screams, filled the air at Pinoy Talent Festival on Sunday (June 21, 2017) as finalists of three contests took to the stage.
The festival, organised by OFW Pinoy Star community magazine at the YWCA ballroom, is an eagerly-awaited annual event. Sunday’s event, held for the 15th year running, was attended by over 500 members of the community. Some of them came with their employers.
She’s My Girl
The She’s My Girl contest, the most popular beauty pageant for the community, was won by Marinel Obejas. She was followed by Elle Viernes, Prez Sturgeon, Thea Grace Jesura and Maria Rica Naces.
My Pinoy Star
To foster inclusivity, the Festival included a segment – My Pinoy Star –for women who preferred to take part, dressed as men. This proved very popular with the audience, especially as the participants took to the catwalk, looking every bit like top-class male models.
The winner, a popular one, was Migz Mercado. She was followed by Dhel Bernaldez, Mitz Sisor, Tabz Templanza, and Dora Delapaz Reyes.
Pinoy Star Got Talent
Farah Mae Villarta, a great performer, won the hearts of the hearts and minds of the judges to win top spot in the Pinoy Star Got Talent contest. Her rendition of the Tina Turner classic, “Rolling on the River,” complete with her curve-jiggling dance moves, got the audience roaring with appreciation.
Other winners in the Pinoy Star Got Talent contest: Aprilesa Atoc and Marlon Malonzo Mallari.
