WBC Silver Championship – Battle of the Champions: Road to Glory

Exciting night for fight fans on Saturday March 25. WBC world welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi defends his title in first-ever topnotch clash in Singapore. Also on the cards: Fast-rising Filipino superstar Jeson ‘Dynamite Fists’ Umbal.

Filipino Jeson ‘Dynamite Fists’ Umbal goes up against the talented Tanzanian Fadhili Majiha in the super bantamweight category. Umbal, with 13 wins under his belt, eight of the by knockout, can be expected to provide an exciting warm-up encounter to the main clash on Saturday, 25 March, at the Singapore Sports Hub – OCBC Arena.

Umbal, who hails from Mambajao, Camiguin, in the Philippines, proved to be the favourite of his Filipino fans when he fought in Singapore last month, taking out the usually durable Tanzanian Nasibu Ramadhan in just 2 rounds.

But the main event of the night is the highly-anticipated world welterweight clash between World Boxing Council (WBC) champion, Charles Manyuchi of Zimbabwe, and Qudratillo ‘The Punisher’ Abduqaxorov, Asia’s rising star from Uzbekistan.

Sanctioned by the WBC, the WBC World Silver Championship – The Battle of the Champions: Road to Glory will be held for the first time ever in Singapore.

The Manyuchi- Abduqaxorov encounter promises to be an “Asia vs Africa” showdown with all the intensity and pound-for-pound excitement that can be expected when two continents collide!

Manyuchi boasts of a career of 20 wins, 12 by KO, 2 losses and 1 draw. His opponent Abduqaxorov has 10 wins under his belt, seven by KO, and no losses.

Manyuchi said that he would not disappoint his fans: “I will let my fists do the talking in the ring. I know that I will be fighting away from home but I will not be intimidated. This is an opportunity for me to show the world what I am made of.”

His manager Christopher Malunga said: “I would like to assure both the nations of Zambia and Zimbabwe that we are ready for the upcoming title defence in Singapore. Charles has been training hard in camp and has prepared himself adequately for the fight. Charles is a very disciplined and talented boxer and is not taking this fight lightly. He does not underrate his opponent but he is confident of victory.”

Also on the cards on Saturday is Singaporean Darryl Edmund Kho who is making his professional debut lock horns with Malaysia’s Ridzuan Dahari.

Kho, who started competing in 2010 and holds an amateur record 5 – 4 – 1, said: “It’s amazing to have finally gotten the chance to make my pro debut, even more so in an event such as this. I expect this to be a challenging bout, but I am ready for it.”
